The Third Amendment
"No Soldier shall, in time of peace be quartered in any house, without the consent of the Owner, nor in time of war, but in a manner to be prescribed by law."
This means that the government cannot expect soldiers to be housed by civilians without their consent in times of peace or war. This is important in allowing people to have the freedom to live and have privacy without having to house a solider(s) and have no choice about it. This can also stop the government from trying to intimidate and control the people governed. This also prevents any hardships a family might face in clothing, feeding, etc a soldier. This also prevents any soldier from taking advantage of their authority/power by demanding to be waited on hand and foot, harassment issues, or even being safe from 'corrupt' soldiers.
This is a scene from the movie "Cold Mountain". I chose this scene because it contrasts the difference between the moral and immoral soldiers. The character played by Jude Law is housed by a civilian and in this case he protects the house. However, other soliders come who were not quartered at the house but pretty much try to raid the house and take advantage of everything that they can. It's true that they may be starving and desperate, but they have no respect for property and privacy. Would you want these types of soldiers in your house?
I chose this scene that shows German soldiers living with a family all in one house. It sort of hints toward sensuality of the young girl and a soldier and it also shows a little about the living conditions a child would have to face if a family housed a soldier.
